Mercedes Sprinter Campervan Interior
The last dark and moody Sprinter van to get us hot under the collar was ‘The Isles’ – a 4×4 Sprinter (LWB). We thought we’d peaked; but what can we say? How we feel about Garrick is next level.
Sure, the contrast between the sleek black overhead cabinets complements the warm oak accents, creating a visually stunning and cohesive interior design. But our van crush on Garrick goes beyond how he looks; we love his heady mix of quality, functionality, attention to detail, and… lightweight materials. In all those aspects, this Sprinter camper excels.
Take the marine vinyl wall paneling in the living area; this high-performance material is incredibly durable and water-resistant. Then there’s the geometric laminated ply in the garage and on the lower cabinets – this not only reduces weight but also has great structural integrity. And that’s before the stuff you don’t immediately notice – like the alloy construction bed – robust, lightweight, sturdy, and space-saving…
We can’t remember function ever looking this good.

Van Conversion Layout
This is an open bulkhead conversion, so moving from front to back, there are 2 swivel seats, 2 removable seats, removable Lagun table, galley kitchen, fixed east-to-west bed (extra long, thanks to Flarespace side pods), and a spacious garage beneath – accessible from the interior using a tambour door.
Key features:
↠ 2 swivel seats.
↠ 2 removable seats.
↠ Removable Lagun table.
↠ Galley kitchen.
↠ Fixed east-to-west bed.
↠ Spacious garage with tambour door.
Seating & Sleeping
You can adjust the layout of the living space and seating area in this Mercedes Sprinter camper according to your adventure – whether you need extra seating for passengers, or more space for gear.
Thanks to an SCA 252 pop-top and AMF-Bruns removable reclining seats, you can seat/sleep up to 4 people in comfort – which is no mean feat on a medium wheelbase chassis.
Key features:
↠ Mercedes Twin Comfort Captain Seats (heated) with armrests.
↠ AMF-Bruns XL Reclining Removable Seats (x2).
↠ AMF-Bruns Smartfloor with 6-rail track system.
↠ Full leather seat upholstery.
↠ Rear fixed double bed (1200mm by 1900mm, alloy construction, foam mattress).
↠ SCA 252 Pop Top (1200mm x 2000mm mattress).
↠ Magnetic window blinds for privacy and insulation.

An important feature of this camper conversion is the genuine Flarespace side pods. These extend the sleeping area to allow for a spacious east-west configuration, comfortably accommodating individuals up to 6ft 2″, with plenty of space to stretch out.
Imported from the US, Flarespace side pods – or ‘flares’ – are premium quality, so it’s no surprise that they come with a premium price tag; you can easily be looking at £4k to buy, import, paint, and have these fitted professionally. But it’s worth it: the fit and finish is by far the best, and can you really put a price on a good night’s sleep? Total game-changers.
APE Adventure Vans are the number one official UK distributor and installer for Flarespace products. If you’d like to consider this as an upgrade, they’re your guys – get in touch.
We also need to shine a light on this van builds’ pop-top. The innovative SCA 252 pop top has a slimline design which harmonises well with the lines of the Sprinter, yet you can leave bedding in place while closed.
Easy to open, the construction comprises of a durable roof shell made of fiberglass reinforced plastic, lined with soft crushed velour.
It’s solid and robust, while offering excellent insulation in all weather, as well as soundproofing against road noise.
Plumbing & Bathroom
This Mercedes camper van has all the essentials you need, and none of the stuff you don’t.
Shower anyone? Sure, there’s an external shower point in the ‘garage’; perfect for washing dogs, shoes, bikes, surfboards, and – on occasion – yourself.
But there isn’t a shower in the van? Nope.
We won’t get into this here (it’s a strongly-debated subject for another article), but many vanlifers will tell you their internal shower is the biggest waste of space in their van (editor: yes, me included).
Instead, what Garrick does have is some of the best kit you’ll find – such as the Propex water heater – with excellent energy efficiency, this is a robust system for hot water, off-grid.
Is there a toilet? Yes – a portable Thetford 365 – a chemical toilet that doesn’t need to be connected to a water or drainage system.
Key features:
↠ Marine stainless steel sink with mixer tap.
↠ 10-Litre Propex water heater.
↠ Underslung fresh water tank.
↠ Underslung grey water tank.
↠ Rear external shower point.
↠ Portable Thetford 365 toilet.

Kitchen
Garrick has a fully equipped kitchen in a galley-style, with the stainless steel sink on one side, and a single induction cooktop on the other. Again, note the high quality appliances – robust, reliable, and effective is the name of the game here.
Take the Dometic CFX 3 55 compressor fridge, for instance. With ExoFrame construction, it’s heavy-duty yet lightweight, and has powerful VMSO3 compressor cooling technology to efficiently cool between +20°C and -22°C. It’s 2-3 times more expensive than less reputable campervan compressor fridges, sure, but will it go the distance? Hell yes.
Key features:
↠ Single zone induction cooktop.
↠ Dometic microwave.
↠ Dometic CFX 3 55 compressor fridge.

Storage
Garrick has plenty of storage spaces – from beautifully executed cabinets, to spacious garage storage – complete with tambour door for easy internal access, or to allow the garage space to extend into the van’s interior. There’s even custom-built storage for the removable Lagun table.
If, like us, you have been admiring the dark overhead cabinets and feature doors. This is Valchromat (coloured fibre board similar to MDF, but moisture resistant), featuring the custom APE geo design. In a nod to congruence and synchronicity, this design aesthetic mirrors that on the rubbing strip on the exterior of the van.
Also of particular note is the headliner shelf over the cab. Shuksan Vans in the US teamed up with APE Adventure Vans to create this slick overhead shelf. Finished in Moss grey to match the van, this laser-cut aluminium piece is super useful. It’s got cargo rings for hanging gear and is the epitome of practical, it’s rare that you see such subtle storage that looks as good as it works.
And finally, let’s talk about the all-important adventure gear storage. We’ve got cargo tracks from the ceiling – perfect for hanging surfboards etc down the centre of the van – as well as bike tracks and mounts in the garage.
Key features:
↠ Overhead cabinets (Valchromat).
↠ Galley cabinets (one housing portable toilet).
↠ Kitchen drawers (with secret drawer layer).
↠ Garage with bike mounts.
↠ Shuksan Vans over-cab shelf.
↠ Cargo tracks to the ceiling.

Lighting
Ambient lighting solutions not only enhance Garrick’s deep, moody attractiveness, but also ensure energy efficiency and convenience throughout the van.
Key features:
↠ Under cabinet lighting.
↠ Ceiling LED strip down lights (x2).
↠ Lazer light integrated spotlights.
↠ Garage lighting.

Heating
Garrick is equipped with a 2KW Planar diesel heater. A premium heating solution, this is fed directly from the main fuel tank for added convenience.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van Exterior
Garrick’s Moss Grey exterior is a rugged yet refined masterpiece. The Delta Klassik wheels, signature ‘APE Adventure Vans‘ vinyl wrap, Terrawagen body armour, and Flarespace side pods combine to create a vibe that’s both tough and stylish.
Garrick is sure to turn heads.
Windows & Ventilation
Garrick features factory-installed Mercedes windows, including rear door windows and fixed windows on both sides, ensuring ample natural light and 360° visibility. All windows to the rear of the B-pillar have privacy tint.
Additionally, to allow cross-venting in the summer months, one of the Flarespace side pods has a sliding bunk window, and there’s an internally-mounted fan.
Ventilation can be further enhanced by opening the zipper window on the pop-up roof, if desired.
Key features:
↠ Rear door windows (2).
↠ Fixed B windows (2).
↠ Privacy tint to rear windows.
↠ Sliding bunk window (1).
↠ Zipper window on the pop-up roof (1).
↠ Internally mounted fan.

Skylights & Fans
Because there’s a pop-up roof on this Sprinter conversion, there are no skylights as such, but the SCA 252 pop top has a fully opening front window (with mosquito net) – so there is some ventilation at roof-height.
Wheels
Garrick’s wheels and tyres are designed to enhance both performance and aesthetics, making him ready for any adventure. Of particular note is the selection of trail terrain tyres, as opposed to all-terrain. This offers a compromise between on-road comfort and off-road capability.
We also love the Mule Vans rear wheel carrier.
Key features:
↠ Delta 4×4 Klassik 17” Alloy Wheels.
↠ BF Goodrich Trail Terrain Tyres.
↠ Mule Vans rear wheel carrier.

Other Exterior Upgrades
In addition to windows and wheels, the APE Adventure Vans branding decal fitted beneath the rubbing strip, and the Terrawagen Body Armour Package complete the look.

FAQs About the Mercedes Sprinter Camper
Is Garrick a 4×4 Sprinter Camper?
No, Garrick is not a 4×4 Sprinter camper. Garrick is built on a rear-wheel drive (RWD) Mercedes Sprinter chassis.
To much debate, Mercedes-Benz has actually transitioned from the 4×4 system to an all wheel drive (AWD) system for the Sprinter in recent models.
The new all-wheel drive system replaces the traditional 4×4 setup and is designed to offer improved handling and traction. This new system can distribute torque more efficiently, sending up to 50% to the front axle, which enhances performance in various driving conditions, including rough terrains and adverse weather.
What are the benefits of a MWB Adventure Van compared to a LWB Adventure Van?
Andy, founder of APE Adventure Vans, considers the medium wheelbase (MWB) Mercedes Sprinter van to be the Swiss army knife of vans. He exclusively builds on this chassis due to its perfect balance of versatility and compactness.
In terms of internal floorspace, the larger van is around a metre longer than the MWB Sprinter. However, compared to a long wheelbase (LWB) van, the cosy MWB van offers several benefits:
Manoeuvrability: The MWB van is easier to manoeuvre and park, making it a better driving experience for both urban environments and off-grid adventures.
Weight: The Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW – maximum weight) on the medium and long wheelbase vans is the same – 3.5T, but the kerb weight (base van weight) of the MWB could be up to 500KG less than the LWB, giving you more payload to play with.
Efficiency: The MWB Sprinter offers lower fuel consumption compared to an LWB van, reducing overall travel costs.
Adaptability: Its compact size allows you to access a wider range of remote locations, perfect for adventure seekers.
Is the Mercedes Camper Van a Class B Van?
Yes, in the United States, the Mercedes camper van is often categorised as a Class B van. The Class B classification is used to describe smaller, compact camper vans built on a standard van chassis.
However, it’s important to note that in the UK, we don’t commonly use the Class B categorisation. Instead, we simply refer to them as camper vans or motorhomes, and we go more by weight to categorise vehicles.
In the UK, the Mercedes Sprinter is commonly referred to as a panel van or a light goods vehicle (LGV). It serves as a versatile base for many types of conversions, including camper vans and motorhomes.
What’s the benefit of Trail Terrain tyres as opposed to All-Terrain?
Trail terrain tyres a versatile choice for drivers who need both on-road comfort and off-road capability.
Traditional all-terrain tyres are more focused on off-road performance, often at the expense of on-road comfort and fuel efficiency.
What’s the deal with so many van builds opting to go gas-free?
In the UK, many campervan conversions are being built gas-free for several compelling reasons:
Safety: Eliminating gas reduces the risk of leaks, which gives many vanlifers peace of mind.
Convenience: A gas-free setup simplifies the refuelling process, as you don’t need to find places that provide LPG refills, or be limited by the supply of specific gas bottle sizes etc. This is particularly important when travelling in Europe etc.
Environmental Impact: Using electric appliances powered by solar energy decreases the carbon footprint, aligning with more eco-friendly living practices.
Efficiency: Modern electrical systems, supported by efficient lithium batteries and powerful inverters, can now provide consistent and reliable power for cooking, heating, and hot water, without the need for gas.
Space Saving: Gas-free systems often require less storage space than gas cylinders, freeing up more room for other uses within the van.
Integration: Electrical systems can be easily integrated and controlled through smart devices, offering greater control and monitoring of power usage.
Overall, the shift towards gas-free van conversions in the UK reflects a combination of safety, convenience, and environmental concerns. The availability of advanced electrical technologies that provide reliable and efficient alternatives to traditional gas systems for motorhome conversions, has made this shift a no-brainer for some.

Interested, do you rent, give spects of cost to rent.
Hey there!
This Mercedes Sprinter was a private sale, so sadly not for rent. I see you’re in the US, the best places to find a van like this for rental would be peer-to-peer rental platforms as they tend to have more custom vans, as opposed to factory fit-out RVs. They are like AirBnB for campers. Platforms like https://www.outdoorsy.com/ and https://gocamp.com/ have some awesome campers for rent. It looks like prices are typically $130 – $200 per night.
