Overhead, marine vinyl ceiling panels from @boyriven_ltd complete the look, blending practicality with understated elegance.

The interior of this Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van conversion is a masterclass in how to make durable, high-quality materials both beautiful and inviting.

Adventure Van Conversion Layout

The thoughtfully planned layout maximises the available space within the Mercedes Sprinter van interior, ensuring every inch serves a purpose.

Homesmith Campers have honed this layout since building Betty, their OG van, 3 years ago. Their clients love it because the living area feels especially roomy, since there is no cabinetry across the door thus opening up the whole area and offering more connection to the outside.

So, from front to back…

This is an open bulkhead conversion, allowing the front swivelling passenger seats to seamlessly integrate with the lounge area. However, for cold nights and added privacy, a bespoke thermal insulated cab divide has been fitted.

The poplar lightweight ply kitchen is both functional and stylish, complete with a pull-out worktop that doubles as a dining or workspace.

Adjacent to this is a versatile double sofa that converts into an additional bed, paired with a removable swivel table for convenience.

The rear features a fixed full-size double bed, with plenty of space thanks to side pods). The bed is elevated to provide ample ‘garage’ storage underneath.

A portable toilet is cleverly hidden beneath the sofa, and an outdoor shower at the rear adds practicality, catering to off-grid adventures with ease.

Seating & Sleeping

The seating and sleeping arrangements in this Homesmith Campers MWB Sprinter conversion showcase an exceptional blend of space-saving design and luxurious comfort, proving that compact can still be incredibly functional.

The camper conversion features a fixed steel-frame bed as its primary sleeping area, measuring a generous 190cm x 135cm and enhanced with side pods for that all-important space to stretch out. Beneath the bed is a spacious ‘garage’ – great for a clutter-free interior.

The seating area is just as versatile, featuring front swivel seats that integrate seamlessly into the living space, along with a pull-out worktop and a removable swivel table. Together, these elements create a flexible zone for dining, working, or relaxing.

Plumbing & Bathroom

In a compact van like this adventure camper van conversion, every choice counts.

To accommodate seating and sleeping for three, Homesmith Campers opted for a smart and minimalist bathroom setup.

Instead of an indoor shower, the van features an extending exterior shower, ideal for rinsing off muddy boots, wet dogs, or refreshing yourself outdoors. This decision maximises interior space, while catering to convenience.

The hidden Thetford Porta Potti 365, neatly tucked beneath the lounge seat, ensures that essential facilities are always close at hand.

A 100L water tank is strategically positioned over the wheel arch, offering a robust water supply that’s better suited for all-season use compared to underslung tanks.

Instant hot water is available thanks to the efficient Truma Combi D4E system, powered by both diesel and electric sources. Together, these elements provide practicality and comfort.

FAQs About About the Mercedes Sprinter Camper Van

How much does this van weigh?

This Sprinter camper van conversion weighs 2,780kg unladen, leaving plenty of room within its Maximum Allowed Weight (MAM) of 3,500kg.

When weighing a van, it’s important to factor in passengers, fuel, water, and belongings to ensure you’re within the legal weight limit while fully loaded. Always check your van’s weight after loading to maintain safety and compliance.

Why is the weight of a campervan important?

The weight of a campervan is crucial for both safety and legality, especially in the UK.

Staying within the Maximum Allowed Weight (MAM) of 3,500kg ensures compliance with road laws and avoids penalties or invalidating your insurance. A lighter van also means lower fuel consumption.

If a van is overweight, you must uprate its weight classification through the DVLA and ensure your license covers it—drivers in the UK require a C1 license to operate vehicles over 3,500kg.

In contrast, weight regulations in the US differ, often allowing higher weight limits, but local laws still apply.

Operating an overweight campervan can lead to legal consequences, insurance claim rejections, and potentially unsafe driving conditions, so weighing your van when fully loaded is essential.

Can this campervan handle off-road adventures?

While this campervan is not 4×4 Mercedes Sprinter or AWD, it is well-equipped to handle light off-road adventures.

The BFG All Terrain KO2 tyres provide excellent grip and durability on uneven or gravel surfaces, making it perfect for exploring rugged trails and campsites off the beaten path. These tyres are a standout feature, ensuring stability and performance even when conditions get challenging.

While it may not be suited for extreme off-road terrain, its thoughtful design and high-quality components make it a reliable companion for adventurous getaways.

What makes this van suitable for UK vanlife?

This van is perfectly tailored for UK vanlife, taking into account the variable climate and road conditions.

Its superior insulation ensures comfort all year round, keeping you cool on warm summer days and toasty during chilly winters.

Furthermore, the inclusion of bespoke thermal cab insulation and bug screens adds practicality for every season, while the internal water storage helps to prevent freezing during colder months.

Thoughtful design features like these make it an ideal companion for exploring the diverse landscapes of the UK in comfort and style.

Why is vinyl wrapping a good choice for campervans?

Vinyl wrapping, like the Hexis Adventure Green matte wrap on this van, is an excellent choice for campervans because it offers both style and practicality.

The wrap enhances the van’s aesthetic with a sleek, adventurous fit and finish while also providing a protective layer against minor scratches, weathering, and road debris. This added durability ensures the van’s exterior stays in great condition, even during rugged adventures.

When compared to Raptor paint, both have their merits. Vinyl wraps are more versatile for achieving custom designs and are reversible, which means you can easily change the look without permanent alterations.

Raptor paint, on the other hand, provides a tough, textured coating that is excellent for extreme off-road use, but it is a permanent option and typically less customisable in terms of aesthetics.
