VW Crafter Conversion with Off-Grid Capability

This LWB camper is designed for extended off-grid adventures, boasting a robust and sophisticated electrical system powered by high-quality Victron Energy components.

The heart of the system is comprised of two lithium leisure batteries, providing ample power storage for all onboard appliances and devices. These are managed by a Victron MultiPlus 12/3000/120-50, a powerful inverter/charger that seamlessly handles both AC and DC power.

Solar charging is handled by a Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 controller, which allows the solar panels to operate at their Maximum Power Point improving efficiency up to 30%. It does this by adjusting input voltage to harvest the maximum power from the solar panels. It then manages this power to supply the varying voltage requirement of the battery plus load.

Further enhancing the system’s efficiency, a Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30 DC-DC charger allows for charging from the vehicle’s alternator while driving. A Victron Lynx Distributor provides a central hub for DC connections, distribution, and fusing, while a Victron BMV battery monitor provides accurate, real-time data on battery status.

These systems are all controlled and monitored by a CBE electrical controller unit with an LED panel. For added convenience, the van is also equipped with a 230v hook-up for when shore power is available.

This comprehensive system provides ample power for all onboard appliances and devices, allowing you to enjoy the comforts of home, even when out in the wild.
