In a recirculating shower, water from the shower tray is pumped through a multi-stage filtration system. First, a spindown filter removes larger particles. Next, the water passes through a triple surround containing micron filters for finer sediment and carbon filters to remove chlorine, odours, and improve taste.
The filtered water is then held in a 12-litre Bobil Air Xchange tank, where it is heated. The heated water is then pumped back to the shower head, creating a continuous loop. The system allows for longer showers while using a fraction of the water compared to conventional systems.

The cost of VW Crafter campervan conversions can vary significantly depending on the complexity of the design, the materials used, and the features included.
Every conversion is different. Some converters offer standard layouts, which can help to keep costs down, while others, like this one from Moveable Routes, are totally unique.
On average, you can expect to pay anywhere from £20,000 to over £60,000 for a professional conversion, excluding the cost of the base van. It’s always best to get a detailed quote from your chosen converter based on the spec you require.
This article has a load more information about campervan conversion price lists and campervan conversion costs.
Why are VW camper vans so expensive?
Campervans, particularly those built on a VW base, often command a higher price due to a combination of factors. These include the renowned build quality and reliability associated with the Volkswagen brand.
VW campervans are known for their solid construction, refined driving experience, and German engineering, all of which contribute to their longevity and desirability, and ultimately a higher price tag. These vans also hold their value well, making them a solid investment.
What is the size difference between a MWB and LWB VW Crafter?
The main difference between a MWB (medium wheelbase) and LWB (long wheelbase) VW Crafter is the length.
A MWB Crafter typically has a wheelbase of around 3.64 meters, while a LWB Crafter has a wheelbase of around 4.49 meters. This translates to a significant difference in overall length, with the LWB offering roughly 85cm of additional space.
This extra space provides more room for living and storage areas, making it a popular choice for LWB camper conversions, especially for those planning extended trips or full-time van life.
However, the added length can make the LWB slightly less manoeuvrable than the MWB. The MWB is generally better for those who plan to travel to places where parking may be a challenge.
Which is bigger VW Crafter or Mercedes Sprinter?
Both the VW Crafter and Mercedes Sprinter offer a range of sizes, but when comparing the most popular L3H2 (long wheelbase, high roof) models, the dimensions are very close.
The L3H2 Mercedes Sprinter is marginally longer at 7.367 meters compared to the L3H2 VW Crafter’s 6.836 meters. The Sprinter is also slightly taller (2.705m vs 2.590m), while the Crafter is a little wider (2.040m vs 2.020m).
For campervans and motorhomes, the payload capacity is also a crucial factor. Payload refers to the maximum weight a vehicle can legally carry, including passengers, cargo, fuel, and any modifications like a campervan conversion. Exceeding the payload can have serious safety, legal, and mechanical consequences.
Again, the figures are similar between comparable models, with both the L3H2 Sprinter and Crafter offering a payload of around 1150kg. It’s essential to check the specific model, however, as these figures can vary.
What is the difference between a VW Crafter and a MAN van?
Prior to 2017, the Volkswagen Crafter and the second-generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter were essentially rebadged versions of the same van, built in the same Mercedes-Benz factories. However, the new design Crafters are no longer made in partnership with Mercedes.
Instead, the new VW Crafter now shares its platform and many components with the MAN TGE, as both Volkswagen and MAN are part of the larger Volkswagen Group. Today, the VW Crafter and MAN TGE are essentially the same van, built on the same platform as a result of a collaboration between Volkswagen and MAN.
While there might be minor differences in styling, trim levels, and engine options, the underlying engineering and overall design of the Crafter and MAN TGE are identical. Therefore, choosing between them often comes down to personal preference, availability, or specific deals offered by dealers.
Why are gasless conversions becoming so popular?
One of the main reasons gasless conversions are becoming increasingly popular in campervans is safety, as they eliminate the need for onboard LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) storage and the associated risks of leaks or combustion.
Gasless systems are also often perceived as more convenient, as you don’t have to worry about sourcing or refilling gas bottles.
With advancements in battery technology and solar power, gasless conversions offer a viable and increasingly attractive option for off-grid living.
