Mercedes Sprinter Campervan Interior

Scandivans‘ signature style is on full display in this Sprinter conversion, creating a space that could be dubbed “Scandinavian Sanctuary.” The aesthetic is minimalist yet warm, evoking a sense of calm and tranquillity.

The interior is entirely clad in light-toned poplar plywood, and this is complemented by a neutral colour palette of whites and greys, further enhancing the airy and open feel.

Clean lines and handleless cabinetry contribute to the sleek, modern look, while the seamless joinery showcases the exceptional craftsmanship. The overall effect is a masterclass in minimalist design, where every element is carefully considered and serves a purpose.

Campervan Conversion Layout

This camper van Mercedes Sprinter boasts a thoughtfully designed, versatile layout that maximises space and functionality within its 170″ wheelbase. The floor plan prioritises an open and airy feel while seamlessly integrating distinct living areas.

Upon entering, you’re greeted by a comfortable, corner upholstered bench seating area, perfect for relaxing or dining. A curtained access point separates the cab, ensuring privacy when needed.

One of the standout features of this conversion is the innovative slide-out table, accessible from the side door, which provides a convenient outdoor dining or workspace solution. The centrally located kitchen, complete with an induction hob, allows for efficient meal preparation. Adjacent to the kitchen is a dedicated shower room with a toilet.

Towards the rear, a fixed bed provides a comfortable sleeping space, without the need for daily conversion. Below, a spacious garage offers ample storage for gear and equipment.

The layout of this camper van Mercedes Sprinter is expertly planned, allowing a natural flow between each zone.

Seating & Sleeping

The lounge seating area features a stylish, corner-configured bench with plush, “Wanderbug” upholstery. A removable swivel table adds further versatility to the space, easily adapting to meal times or serving as a mobile workstation. For bright days, there’s also a slide-out breakfast bar which extends beyond the side door.

At the rear of the Sprinter van, a fixed bed offers a dedicated sleeping area that comfortably accommodates two. The bed’s generous length is enhanced by the addition of side flares, providing valuable extra mattress inches – that make all the difference for a restful night’s sleep!

This fixed bed configuration eliminates the need for daily setup and takedown, a significant advantage for those who prioritise storage and convenience.

Lighting

“We incorporate LED channels into most of our overhead and lower level units. They offer additional lighting when needed, but they also tie everything together beautifully.”

Sam, Director and Designer at Scandivans

Ssm’s words perfectly encapsulate the thoughtful approach to lighting in this conversion.

There are six dimmable, black LED spotlights strategically positioned throughout the ceiling, providing ample and adjustable illumination for the entire living space.

Adding both functionality and a touch of ambience, dimmable LED strips are inset beneath the overhead units, casting a warm glow and highlighting the clean lines of the cabinetry.

In the bedroom, two flexible reading lights offer focused illumination for late-night reading. The lighting is controlled by two black 12v dimmer switches.

Heating & Insulation

This Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is designed for year-round comfort, thanks to its premium heating and insulation system.

The foundation of this system is a robust insulation strategy, beginning with sound deadening applied throughout the van to minimize external noise. An insulating thermal liner and thermal fleece insulation are then layered within the walls, creating a cosy and energy-efficient interior. The floor is constructed with an XPS core base topped with a durable marine plywood lining, providing further insulation from the ground up.

The van’s primary heat source is the highly efficient Truma Diesel Combi 6DE, a combined air and water heater that delivers both warmth and hot water on demand. This system, which is also capable of running on electric, is strategically designed with three heating outlets for even heat distribution throughout the living space, ensuring comfort in all weather conditions.

FAQs about Sprinter Adventure Vans

How much does a Sprinter van conversion cost?

The cost of a long-wheelbase (LWB) Sprinter van conversion from the expert team at Scandivans typically ranges from £36,000 to £60,000 (including VAT, but excluding the base van).

The price of the base van itself can vary considerably depending on factors like age, mileage, and specifications, generally falling between £25,000 and £55,000.

Therefore, the total cost of a completed, luxury camper van can range from approximately £61,000 to £115,000. It’s important to contact Scandivans directly for a precise quote tailored to your specific requirements and choice of base vehicle.

Why is poplar plywood a good choice for a camper van conversion?

Poplar plywood, as extensively used in this Scandivans conversion, is a popular choice for campervans due to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio. It’s more lightweight than many other types of wood, which helps to keep the overall weight of the van down, reducing fuel consumption and improving handling.

Poplar is also known for its durability, resistance to warping, and smooth, even grain, making it ideal for both structural elements and finishing. The light color also contributes to a bright and airy Scandi-style interior.

What are the benefits of a gasless conversion like this one?

This Scandivans conversion utilises a gasless, all-electric setup, which offers several advantages.

Firstly, it eliminates the need to carry and refill propane tanks, simplifying logistics and potentially saving space and weight.

Secondly, it can be more environmentally friendly, particularly when combined with solar power.

Finally, all-electric systems are often considered safer, as there’s no risk of gas leaks.

The powerful off-grid setup in this van, featuring a substantial lithium battery and solar charging, makes a gasless conversion highly practical and convenient for extended adventures in the great outdoors.

What are the advantages of a fixed bed in a camper van?

A fixed bed in Mercedes Sprinter motorhomes offers several benefits for van life. The most significant advantage is convenience; there’s no need to convert a seating area into a bed each night and back again in the morning. This saves time and effort, particularly on longer trips.

A fixed bed also allows for a more comfortable and permanent mattress, leading to better sleep quality. Additionally, it often creates a dedicated sleeping space that feels more private and separate from the living area, as well as providing a large ‘garage’ space – providing storage options for sports equipment.

Is this van suitable for year-round travel?

Yes, this Scandivans conversion is the ultimate adventure van and is well-equipped for all-seasons. The combination of a highly efficient Truma Combi 6DE heating and hot water system, comprehensive insulation (including thermal fleece and an XPS core floor base), and strategically placed ventilation makes it comfortable in a variety of climates.

The robust off-grid electrical system also ensures you can power your heating and other appliances even when not connected to shore power.

Can a conversion like this be personalised?

Absolutely! This conversion is based on ‘Layout 2’ from Scandivans. Commissioning your own build allows you to choose from various layouts and select your preferred flooring and soft furnishings. Scandivans use scratch-resistant, hardwearing, and durable materials, chosen for their eco-credentials and ability to enhance the signature poplar plywood aesthetic.
